Nine in the evening, a tent at the edge of the woods, a child’s just grazed a knee on a root. You reach for a plaster — and it’s back home, in the drawer. The nearest chemist’s is twenty minutes’ drive and shut anyway. This episode is about what to pack in a camping kit so a grazed knee is a pit stop and not the end of the day — all from the packing-and-order side, without getting into treatment.
Straight off, honestly: this isn’t an episode about how to treat something. A camping kit is for minor first aid and for keeping the medicines you’re carrying in order — not for rescue. With a serious injury, a big wound or a strong reaction after a bite, you ring 999 and get professional help.
How is a camping kit different from the one at home? In the woods you can’t buy a thing after dark, often you’ve no signal, and the mosquitoes and ticks come as standard. So you pack for being on your own with whatever’s in the rucksack: a bit extra, things for insects and sun, a tick-removal tool, and a supply of regular medicines.
