And that two o’clock dose, in the middle of a fever and phone calls to the GP, simply slipped away. The little pink syringe stayed on the worktop, untouched. Iza settles her son to sleep and doesn’t know: give a double dose to make up for it? Skip it? Ring the GP on a Friday night?

This episode is about what to do in the MOMENT of a missed dose — not about why we miss them. Because a missed dose isn’t the exception, it’s the norm: with long-term treatments, half of patients miss doses (World Health Organisation data, after Sabaté 2003), and with short antibiotic courses the proportion that go unfinished is higher still.
