Friday evening, half past seven. Leon, nine years old, day three of an antibiotic for his ear — Augmentin, three times a day. And that two o’clock dose, in the middle of a fever and phone calls to the GP, simply slipped away. The little pink syringe stayed on the worktop, untouched. Iza settles her son to sleep and doesn’t know: give a double dose to make up for it? Skip it? Ring the GP on a Friday night?
This episode is about what to do in the MOMENT of a missed dose — not about why we miss them. Because a missed dose isn’t the exception, it’s the norm: with long-term treatments, half of patients miss doses (World Health Organisation data, after Sabaté 2003), and with short antibiotic courses the proportion that go unfinished is higher still.
Tomasz draws the line most medical apps don’t respect: the mojApteczka app does NOT prescribe. It won’t tell you whether to double a dose — because that’s a decision for the pharmacist or the GP. The app hands you the FACTS for that phone call: the dose counter on the card (“Dose 7 of 21”), today’s times with a status colour, the red “Due” entry. Panic turns into one precise question.

The app is a tool for MEMORY. The GP and the pharmacist are KNOWLEDGE. Those are two different things.

About AI in this episode. The dialogue was written by Tomasz Szuster. The voices you hear are AI-generated synthetic voices — not recordings of the hosts. We say this straight out, because we think it should be the standard for any podcast made this way. Full details in the episode outro.
